VOCs degradation with non-thermal plasma and Ag-MnOx catalysis

چکیده
Non-thermal plasma (NTP) is effective for degradation of aromatic molecules, achieving complete mineralization, however, is difficult. In contrast, thermal catalysis may be very effective toward achieving complete mineralization at high temperatures. Its drawbacks at a low processing temperature are undesirable intermediate byproducts production. By integrating dielectric barrier discharge with home-made Ag-MnOx catalyst, we have succeeded in achieving both VOCs complete decomposition and without toxic byproducts production. As an example, this paper reports toluene decomposition in air. The effects of the reaction temperature and the plasma specific energy density on the decomposition efficiency and byproducts formation are experimentally investigated. Very effective synergetic effect between the NTP and catalyst has been observed for VOCs decomposition.

Novel Catalytic Non-thermal Plasma Reactor for the Destruction of Volatile Organic Compounds
A novel dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) reactor has been designed as catalytic non-thermal plasma (NTP) reactor. It was tested for the abatement of diluted volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of different nature. The novelty of the DBD reactor is that a metallic catalyst made of sintered metal fibers (SMF) also acts as the inner electrode. The SMF electrodes modified with oxides of Ti, Mn and ...

A dielectric barrier discharge reactor with inner electrode modified with metal oxides of Ti, Mn and Co has been designed and tested for the oxidation of diluted volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of different nature like toluene, isopropanol and trichloroethylene. It has been observed that at a fixed concentration of VOC, total oxidation of isopropanol is achieved at lower specific input energy...

متن کاملAbatement of VOCs with Alternate Adsorption and Plasma-Assisted Regeneration: A Review
Energy consumption is an important concern for the removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from waste air with non-thermal plasma (NTP). Although the combination of NTP with heterogeneous catalysis has shown to reduce the formation of unwanted by-products and improve the energy efficiency of the process, further optimization of these hybrid systems is still necessary to evolve to a competi...
متن کاملRemoval of VOCs Using Nonthermal Plasma Technology
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are liquids or solids that contain organic carbon (carbon bonded to carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, or sulfur, but not carbonate carbon as in CaCO3 nor carbide carbon as in CaC2 or CO2), which vaporize at significant rates. VOCs are probably the second-most widespread and diverse class of emissions after particulates. VOCs are a large family of compounds. Some (e.g...
